Aboriginal Health Research and Training Facility

Sylvia Abonyi - Principal Investigator

The Aboriginal Health Research and Training Facility, located in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan,  includes a research networking and field training room, advanced computer systems and a secure data storage room.  The facility houses audio and video equipment for data collection and dissemination, and technology capable of translating findings into innovative knowledge sharing strategies.

The innovative location and infrastructure will greatly facilitate the participatory and action oriented approach that is pivotal to the success of research in this area.  The location, in Prince Albert, was chosen as a mid-sized northern city where many of our community-based partners already meet for other purposes and where our university collaborators from First Nations University of Canada, University of Regina, and University of Saskatchewan have satellite campuses.  It is easily accessible by community members as well as research collaborators.

The Aboriginal health research and training facility is dedicated to improving our understanding of Aboriginal health, particularly in the area of population health and providing training to new generations of researchers. These unique training and collaboration opportunities are accessible not only to research personnel and students, but also to the community members who engage with us in research.
