Evaluating the Use of Community Health Indicators Toolkit and Program Logic Models

— filed under:

Abstract

In this project we will evaluate the effectiveness of our knowledge translation activities in both the dissemination and uptake of two key deliverables that resulted from a project recently completed with nine First Nation and provincial communities in northern Saskatchewan.  This earlier project, funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (Institutes of Aboriginal Health and Population and Public Health), addressed the information needs of community-based health care directors and providers in tracking the impact of locally delivered health programs on community health.  The two key deliverables, a Community Health Indicators Toolkit and Program Logic Models, were distributed back to the First Nation and northern health organizations who partnered with us on this project. These deliverables have since been shared with other communities across Canada, in response to requests from them.

In this KT evaluation project we will assess the impact of the dissemination strategy for these two key deliverables with two groups:  1) northern Saskatchewan communities participating in this research; and 2) other interested communities, health professionals, academics and policy makers beyond Saskatchewan.  Our participatory evaluation methodology involves our community partners in this project and focuses on producing findings that will result in deliverables of benefit to them as well as others conducting research in this area.
