Dr. Shanthi Johnson, PhD, RD, FDC, FACSM is a professor at the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies at the University of Regina in Saskatchewan and an adjunct professor at the Canadian Centre for Activity and Aging, School of Kinesiology, University of Western Ontario in Canada. Prior to her appointment at the University of Regina, she was an assistant professor at the School of Nutrition and Dietetics at Acadia University in Nova Scotia. She is also a registered dietitian and has been awarded fellow status with Dietitians of Canada (FDC) as well as the American College of Sports Medicine (FACSM).
Dr. Johnson is also a recipient of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research career award. Her research interest involves health promotion and falls prevention among older adults with a multidisciplinary perspective. Specifically, she has been examining the role of nutrition and exercise interventions in improving functional capacity and reducing falls in seniors in community and long-term care settings.
While aging and health has been the main focus of Dr. Johnson’s research, she has espoused a life course perspective and has worked with several age groups. She has been involved in research in the areas of population health, rural health, health services research, and global health.
